dawn to dusk

A body of work inspired by the gardens and park at Petworth House in West Sussex

about the show

Solo Show, Petworth House, Petworth.
July - September 2021

‘Dawn to Dusk’ was a new body of work inspired by the gardens and park at Petworth House in West Sussex.  The exhibition showcased over fifty new paintings in both oil and watercolour based on the beautiful National Trust site.  The show captured the cycle of the day in Petworth Park and Gardens from dreamy sunrises, midday scenes through to gentle and dramatic sunsets.

In its heyday, Petworth House hosted a great many renowned painters of the time.  The House continues to exhibit works by Turner, Constable, Gainsborough and others in its permanent collection.

Some of their works were created whilst staying at the House, overlooking the Capability Brown-designed landscape.  These same grounds provided Lucy with a wonderful source of new material for her painting en plein air, as well as larger works that she created back in the studio.

The show included Lucy’s smaller plein air works both oil and watercolour, painted in the park and gardens and also much larger works including 120x200cm oils alongside 100cmx100cm watercolours.
