Revealing how light shapes mood and atmostphere
Solo Show – September 2024

about the show

Building on the success of Constable’s Walks in 2022, Lucy’s most recent solo exhibition, Times of the Day, featured over 80 works that explored the effects of light across landscapes and seascapes from dawn through the day and into the night. This collection included pieces in oil, watercolor, and gouache, with many painted en plein air and larger works completed in the studio. Each painting emphasizes the dynamic impact of light on color, shadows, and landmarks, with night scenes delving into the subtle nuances of low light.

Inspired by stunning locations in the UK and abroad, Lucy’s works reflect her deep understanding of color and her ability to convey the changing atmosphere throughout the day. Whether in bright sunlight or under the cover of darkness, her paintings bring to life the beauty and mood of each moment. This exhibition invited viewers to experience the full cycle of a day through Lucy’s observation of light and its transformative power.

A YEAR OF PAINTING ‘TIMES OF THE DAY’

Whilst this has truly been a year in the making with a number of the works in this show created last year, I wanted to capture my painting process ‘in motion’ over the last several months. I hope you enjoy the short Blogs and associated videos that I made along the way and join me as I painted outside and back in the studio.

I was blessed with some great weather and some less great (!). Taking photographs in the rain when painting was not top of my list of things to do, so you may see an abundance of sunshine! I am sure you will enjoy my journey as laid out each month below …
