This month has seen me finishing the final works needed to make this a true Times of the Day show and, of course, doing everything that is needed to create a complete exhibition. The show is less than a week away now!
I have painted a number of nocturnes en plein air, and also created some much larger studio works.
I took a trip up to one of my favourite locations to paint a nocturne. Arriving in the early evening, I stayed and watched as the sky turned from blue, through orange and then black when all natural light was lost.
It was great fun getting my night-painting equipment together and spending an evening with a flask for company.
My show will include a number of urban landscapes or ‘urbanscapes’. I love the challenge of capturing the fast-moving scene with people and vehicles moving in all directions.
The city light is quite different as well, so it presents a whole new set of problems to solve with paint. I painted small works en plein air on location and then scaled them up in the studio. I have created larger works in oil and also gouache.
With most of my work now complete, I have turned my attention to preparing for the show itself.
There has been plenty of marketing to do. Then flyers, postcards and of course the catalogue. As well as physical material, everything has to be digital too. Then there is the Social Media and even a live on-line talk to do as we count down the days to opening on 7th September.
And some framing …
There is a more in-depth video available showing you what I have been doing if you click here.
I do hope that you will join me at my show which takes place at the Royal Watercolour Society Gallery, on Whitcomb Street, just off Trafalgar Square. It opens next Saturday 7th September at 11am and runs until 3pm on Sunday 15th September.
