Solo show opens 3rd March
With Spring approaching I thought it is the perfect time to launch my new body of work. I do hope you enjoy this new online series as much as I have enjoyed painting them. They have given me much joy, so I do hope that all the paintings will bring you joy, too!
Observation and Light is a series that I have been hard at work on over these Winter months. It has been lovely to explore and create these paintings during the darkness of Winter. It is a series of thirty new paintings, both in oil and watercolour and all painted from life. All works come framed and are available!
For this latest body of paintings, I have set out to create a series of small en plein air work, observing nature and exploring light. I have been out painting landscapes in all weathers and all times of day and evening.
I have also painted from life back in the studio to create a series of flower paintings observing nature close at hand. The observation of flowers from life in the studio is a new addition to my painting practice. It is one that I have been meaning to work on for some time and I am delighted to start sharing them with you.
The flower paintings are exploring observation and the beauty and movement in a still flower. Just like my landscapes, they are painted from life. They are not fantasy flowers. My aim is to observe how a still flower can still give such a feeling of energy and mood. I think you will agree they have the same loose movement and mood of my landscapes.
The show is divided into three areas: landscapes, sunsets and flowers. All of these have been focusing on the interplay of light and observing from life. The landscapes and the sunsets are particularly exploring light. The Winter subsets have been beautiful, so I have been out with my thermals and fingerless gloves painting as the sun goes down.
Along with the paintings for sale, there is also a catalogue available. The 60-page full-colour catalogue includes a background to the online show and images of all the paintings. The catalogue itself has a strong beautiful matte cover. Perfect to sit on a coffee table or browse through!
I can’t believe we are already in very early Spring. I’m seeing signs of hope with Crocuses and Daffodils in the garden and I’m starting to look forward to sunny painting days. There are a lot of different painting adventures coming this year, so I do hope you will enjoy coming along on those with me.
In the meantime, please do take a look at the show!
Look after yourselves until next time.
